*This is the beginning excerpt of a 20 page story I’m writing for my fiction class*

“You ready for this?” Darryl asked. I starred at him. “Don’t tell me you’re gonna punk out like a little girl!” I continued to stare at him. I was thinking to myself, well, stalling for time. I already knew the answer to his question. I wasn’t ready; I was looking for a way out. Part of me wanted to bolt for the door, head down the alley, and book it to 18th street; at least I was somewhat familiar with that area. The other half of me wanted to give in and cry, show him how much of a punk I really was. I can’t do this; I thought to myself, there has to be a way out! But there wasn’t. I was still stuck in the corner of this damn forsaken house, and that shiny metal was still jabbed into my gut. I took a slow breath, closed my eyes, and opened my mouth…
